Xbmc and up-to-date codecs

hey, i'm having a little problem with my xbmc. i have downloaded the newses version i could find on edonkey network (from 28-02-2005), couse i don't wont to mess with the compilation process my self.

this version works fine, but i'm having trouble playing the newsest divx movies. is there any way i can update codecs?

chances are about 0.0001% that it would work if you dropped it in codecs folder, even smaller in fact, so small i'm not sure how to tell you so it's not confusing.

hmm, i'm having truble playing a movie. but my friend with the same xbmc version plays it with no problems.

what can couse a movie not to play, cant it be bios/mod chip(i have a soft mod), any thing else?

can we add codec's to that dir?

i have just got an avi with vodei codec, (the .avi tells me so when i try to play on xbox and pc) i went to www.vodei.com and was offered a .exe

anyone heard of or used this codec? harmless?
is there a way i can transfer this codec to the xbox if i do install on my pc?

no you can't update the divx codec. it is hardcoded into the xbmc video core.

ps: some other codecs are stored in the dll folder.
