How can I invest in HSBC Australia?

Do you want to buy shares in HSBC, which is a global corporation, or do you want to open an investment account with them?

I am interested in investing in HSBC Bank Australia - I think a subsidiary of HSBC (saw from a news article). I have not invested in shares before so I don't know how I'd go about this, how muhc they cost, whether I am eligible, etc. Thanks
