All Star Game (R)
  • All Star Game

I recently was wrong when saying that this is the first All Star Game. There already was one in 1993, also in the mode German NT vs Team World. The teams in 1993:

Germany: Köpke (Nürnberg/46. Illgner, Köln) – Matthäus (Bayern) – Weber (Frankfurt), Kohler (Juventus/46. Wagner, Kaiserslautern), Ritter (Kaiserslautern) – Helmer (Bayern), Effenberg (Florence/46. Zorc, Dortmund), Pflipsen (Mönchengladbach/68. Gaudino, Frankfurt), Häßler (AS Rome/46. Ziege, Bayern) – Thom (Leverkusen), Hobsch (Bremen)

Team World: Cherchesov (Dresden, Russia/46. Laukkanen, Mannheim, Finland) – Kadlec (Kaiserslautern, Czech Rep/46. Eriksson, Kaiserslautern, Sweden) Zchadadse (Frankfurt, Georgia), Nijhuis (Duisburg, Netherlands) – Letchkov (Hamburg, Bulgaria), Sforza (Kaiserslautern, Switzerland), Herzog (Bremen, Austria/46. Cardoso, Freiburg, Argentina), Jorginho (Bayern, Brazil) – Chapuisat (Dortmund, Switzerland), Rufer (Bremen, New Zealand/46. Sergio, Leverkusen, Brazil), Knup (Stuttgart, Switzerland)

The game was in Augsburg and Team World won 2-0 by two Chapuisat goals (48.pk, 73).

The All Star Game today is turning a little bit to a farce – once again because in Dortmund and Munich (only over Bayern’s part of the town) there is a heavy flu and slight injury wave as always when there’s a national team friendly. Elber (no.1 in the fan choice), who is always very eager to present himself in the right light for his own social activities, was the first to cancel his participation due to a pulled muscle – something that didn’t keep him away from playing full 90 minutes on Saturday. Yesterday evening the bad news continued: Kuffour (already missed the game on Saturday), Oude Kamphuis (had to be substituted with injury), Placente, Ewerthon and Rosicky (all three played without any problems) followed. It seems that today Bordon and Ujfalusi were taken off the list as well. Huub Stevens was calling lots of players for replacement and found some who were willing: Colding, van Hoogdalem, Meira, Jarolim, Petkovic, Magnin and Wichniarek.

For the NT Zickler (torn muscle), Ramelow (ankle injury) and Asamoah cancelled, Böhme is still insecure. Völler called three further players for them: Rau, Balitsch and Lauth

    The remaining teams for tonight:

    Germany:
Goal – Kahn (Bayern), Lehmann (Dortmund)
Defence – Baumann (Bremen), Friedrich (Berlin), Metzelder (Dortmund), Rau (Wolfsburg) Rehmer (Berlin), Wörns (Dortmund), Ziege (Tottenham)
Midfield – Balitsch (Leverkusen), Ballack (Bayern), Böhme (Schalke), Jeremies (Bayern), Kehl (Dortmund), Ricken (Dortmund), Schneider (Leverkusen)
Offence – Bobic (Hannover), Freier (Bochum), Klose (Kaiserslautern), Lauth (1860), Neuville (Leverkusen)

    Team World:
Goal – 1 Kiraly (Berlin, Hungary), 13 Piplica (Cottbus, Bosnia)
Defence – 2 Colding (Bochum, Denmark), 12 van Hoogdalem (Schalke, Netherlands), 3 Meira (Stuttgart, Portugal), 4 Petkovic (Nürnberg, Yugoslavia), 17 Strasser (Mönchengladbach, Luxembourg), 5 Verlaat (Bremen, Netherlands)
Midfield – 10 Balakov (Stuttgart, Bulgaria), 8 Bastürk (Leverkusen, Turkey), 7 Jarolim (Nürnberg, Czech Rep), 16 Magnin (Bremen, Switzerland), 18 Marcelinho (Berlin, Brazil), 6 Poulsen (Schalke, Denmark)
Offence – 20 Ailton (Bremen, Brazil), 14 Koller (Dortmund, Czech Rep), 11 Sand (Schalke, Denmark), 9 Wichniarek (Bielefeld, Poland)

  • After all the negative cancellations there also are some positive exceptions to be mentioned: Frank Verlaat who suffered two eye and one head injury in the last three weeks, appeared with a black eye from Saturday (“That’s no reason to cancel”), Gabor Kiraly played despite of a bruise “(“It’s an honour for me”), Bernd Schneider, who begged Rudi Völler to play full 90 minutes despite already having more than 70 games this year, and Soren Colding, who originally was not nominated, returned from vacation in Denmark after being called from Huub Stevens.

    The teams:

    1st Half:

Germany: Kahn (captain) – Ziege, Baumann, Wörns, Friedrich – Balitsch, Ballack, Jeremies, Schneider – Neuville, Bobic

World: Kiraly – Strasser, Verlaat, Ujfalusi, Colding – Poulsen, Bastürk, Balakov, Magnin – Sand (captain), Ailton

    2nd Half:

Germany: Lehmann – Rau, Baumann, Wörns, Rehmer – Freier, Kehl, Frings (77. Balitsch), Schneider (captain) – Klose, Lauth

World: Piplica – Strasser, Ujfalusi, van Hoogdalem, Colding – Marcelinho, Meira, Petkovic, Jarolim – Koller (captain), Wichniarek

    Score:
    1:0 Jeremies (22. Schneider)
    1:1 Marcelinho (48. Jarolim)
    2:1 Klose (63. Frings)
    2:2 Koller (67.-)
    3:2 Lauth (68.-)
    4:2 Lauth (90. Klose)

    Attendance: 36.200

In the first half the game didn’t have the expected entertaining level. After Team World dominated the beginning, the German NT was marking a bit closer and that stopped the game play a little. This changed in the second half with lots of spectacular scenes and many goals. Goal of the Day surely Benny Lauth’s 3-2 with a bicycle kick. Unfortunately Torsten Frings suffered a hand injury, for him Balitsch returned to the game. Best players: Schneider, Lauth and Klose for Germany – Marcelinho and Koller for Team World.

  • Oh yes, the purpose of the game: 3.5 M income for the clubs that were affected by the flood catastrophe in summer.

  • I really expected this game to be horrible and boring but I'm surprised, I love it.

It's entertaining and i think it's great that a lot of young German players can show their skills.
